This market tracks the probability of OpenAI’s initial public offering (IPO) closing with a market capitalization above $800 billion. Currently, the leading outcome – that OpenAI’s IPO *will* exceed this valuation – is trading at 92.0% on Polymarket. Resolution will be based on the official closing price from the primary exchange’s listing page, as defined in the resolution source. Keep a close watch on whether OpenAI initiates its IPO process, as this market will resolve to “No” if no IPO occurs by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET.
This market will resolve to “Yes” if the official closing price for OpenAI's market capitalization on its first trading day is above the listed value. Otherwise, it will resolve to “No”. If no IPO occurs by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “No”. Market capitalization is defined as the total number of outstanding shares multiplied by the closing share price on the first trading day. Resolution will be based on the primary exchange’s official listing page. In the event that the relevant figure is not displayed, another reliable source will be used. In the event of an interruption in the course of the normal trading session on OpenAI's first day of trading (e.g., a circuit breaker or half-day), the market will resolve according to the official closing price of the abbreviated session. If no such official closing price is published, the market will resolve according to the next trading day on which an official closing price is published, treating that as the first day of trading.
Currently, the prevailing sentiment in this market suggests a high probability that the OpenAI IPO will close with a market cap above the threshold. This contrasts with some initial analyst forecasts, which were more conservative. However, it’s important to note that analyst predictions are often based on traditional valuation methods and may not fully account for the hype and investor enthusiasm often seen with highly anticipated tech IPOs. The collective wisdom of traders on Polymarket seems to be leaning towards a more optimistic outcome for the OpenAI IPO.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief about the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of the IPO closing above the specified market cap. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the aggregated sentiment. Currently, the top outcome – the IPO closing above the threshold – has a chance percentage of 72.8% and the volume traded on that outcome is significant, demonstrating strong conviction among traders.
This market resolves around Jan 1, 2028, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on the closing market capitalization of OpenAI on its IPO date, as reported by a widely recognized financial data source. Traders should monitor news and financial reports leading up to the resolution date to stay informed about any developments that could impact the outcome of this market. The final price will determine whether the 'above' outcome wins or not.
Several factors could significantly influence this market. Any news regarding OpenAI’s financial performance, regulatory approvals for the IPO, or overall market conditions could cause shifts in trader sentiment. Unexpected announcements about the IPO’s pricing or the number of shares offered would also be major catalysts. Broader economic indicators, such as interest rate changes or inflation data, could also indirectly affect the market. Positive or negative press coverage surrounding OpenAI’s technology or leadership could also move this market considerably.
