West Virginia's coal industry faces fluctuating demand influenced by energy policies and market trends. The state's ability to increase or maintain production levels in 2026 will depend on factors such as technological advancements, regulatory changes, and global coal prices.
All markets resolve based on the first EIA Quarterly Coal Report containing full-year 2026 production data for West Virginia. Production figures from Table 2, Coal Production by State, are converted from thousand short tons to million short tons by dividing by 1,000. Subsequent revisions to the data do not affect resolution. Each market has a specific threshold: above 74 million, 76 million, 78 million, or 80 million short tons. If the reported production exceeds the respective threshold, that market resolves to Yes.
