NATO's Article 4 allows any member to call for consultations with allies if it believes its territorial integrity, political independence, or security to be threatened. This market will resolve to "Yes" if any NATO member invokes Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty between market creation and the specified date 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, it will resolve to "No". Article 4 is considered invoked as soon as a member formally requests consultations with NATO allies under Article 4, regardless of whether the request is later revoked. For example, Poland's request for consultations on September 10, 2025, or Estonia's request on September 24, 2025 would each qualify for a "Yes" resolution. If a member state only expresses intent to or is considering invoking Article 4, that alone does not suffice for a "Yes" resolution. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from NATO; authoritative statements from the requesting member government may also be used.

Currently, this market reflects a very high probability of another Article 4 invocation, contrasting with many traditional analyst forecasts that remain more cautious. While experts debate the likelihood of such a severe escalation, the market price captures aggregate trader expectations based on available intelligence and recent geopolitical tensions. This divergence highlights how market participants may weigh different risk factors than institutional analysts do.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, traders actively set the odds through buying and selling shares, creating a dynamic price that reflects the collective view of all participants. The current top outcome shows a 24.0% probability, driven by recent trading activity and liquidity conditions. Market depth and order book data further influence how prices adjust to new information or shifts in sentiment.
This market resolves around Jan 1, 2027, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution depends on whether a formal Article 4 invocation occurs under NATO protocols during the specified timeframe. Any officially declared action by NATO members will determine the final result, based on authoritative news sources and official statements.
Key signals include rising tensions between NATO members and Russia, military movements near alliance borders, or political statements from high-level leaders. Escalations in cyber attacks attributed to state actors, emergency NATO summits, or defensive posture adjustments could also shift trader sentiment. Media coverage of any incident meeting Article 4 criteria tends to produce rapid price movements as participants reassess risks.
